If you're looking for gluten free options in Barcelona, look no further. You've come to the right place.

Barcelona, Spain, is one of the most vibrant cities in Europe. It offers everything: culture, history, beautiful parks, the beach, nightlife, shopping, and, most importantly, delicious gluten free food. I felt so 'normal' in Barcelona since there were so many gluten free options at so many restaurants, which was fantastic.
If you have coeliac disease or are gluten intolerant, there are numerous restaurants in Barcelona that are coeliac friendly or provide gluten free options on their menus. The majority of restaurants, as seen below, display coeliac association signs in their window.

The phrases listed below should help to double check with staff and inform them of your dietary requirements.
Gluten Free Spanish Phrases:
Soy celiaco (m), soy celiaca (f) = I am coeliac
Sin gluten = gluten free (Spanish)
Sense gluten = gluten free (Catalan)
No puedo comer gluten / harina de trigo = I can’t eat gluten / wheat flour
Here is my gluten free Barcelona guide...
We chose this restaurant as our first visit on our trip since we had heard so many amazing things about it...even if the name is a little funny! Everything on the menu was gluten free, so there were a lot of options, and our server did an excellent job of explaining everything. We decided to try something unique and ordered the 'fuck your diet' set menu for €38. Wow, the food was incredible, although there were some things on the menu that I would have never tried before but I'm so glad we did!
This Chinese restaurant can make various gluten free dishes and has processes in place to reduce the risk of cross contamination. Their gluten free options ranges from rice dishes, steamed dumplings, fried chicken, prawns, and noodles. When you are ordering make sure you let them know you are a coeliac or gluten intolerant and they can answer any questions you have.
Jansana comes highly recommended because they offer a large selection of gluten free goodies and everything we tried was of excellent quality. Everything a coeliac could want: gluten free pastries, gluten free bread, and more. Our favourites were the gluten free doughnuts, which were incredible! My friend couldn't even tell that they were gluten free.
Green & Berry is probably the healthiest of the restaurants on this guide. The breakfast menu, which includes many gluten free options, is available all day. They also had a big selection of cakes and sweets, with many of them being gluten free. It's a lovely venue, and the food is very 'Instagramable,' so if that's your thing (like mine), take a visit!
The Messié Sin Gluten restaurant where we dined was completely gluten free, certified by the Catalan Coeliac Society. There are two more restaurant locations in Barcelona, however note that one of them is a non gluten free one. Here you'll find a fantastic assortment of gluten free pizza, pasta, risottos, and salads that are free of cross contamination.
A completely gluten free branch of the A Vocados chain, including lactose free, vegan, and sugar free alternatives as well (note the other branches are not fully gluten free, but do offer gluten free options). Nachos, pizzas, pastas, tacos, and much more are among the many delicious lunch and brunch options.
The Hard Rock Cafe is one of those restaurants that you can find in almost any city in the world. There are a variety of gluten free options that you can request, and to top it off there is a separate fryer for chips. It's located in the centre of Barcelona, so if you're a Hard Rock fan, you should absolutely go! It has also been certified by the Catalan Coeliac Society.
McDonald's in Spain offers a gluten free burger bun and was advised by the Spanish Coeliac Society on proper precautions. So gluten free preparation is done in a separate area, prepared separately, with clean gloves, and so on. On our trip we visited McDonald's twice, so I decided to get two of the same burgers, but different burger toppings inside for a bit of a change!
I really hope you found my Barcelona 2022: My Gluten Free Travel Guide useful. Please let me know if you come across any more restaurants that you would recommend. I can't wait to return to Barcelona and try some more gluten free restaurants (as I didn't get through my whole list, as there was too many!) And who knows where my next trip will take me...
Thanks so much for reading!
